From Tales to Truth - Echoes of 1984
Rahul Milind's History capstone project, a documentary film titled A Winter that Burned Delhi: Silent Screams and Broken Promises of 1984, taking an ethnographic approach, looks at the events of 1984 in Delhi and Punjab and how these events are remembered today in memory, especially by those who have not lived the experience firsthand, and have only heard stories about it growing up in their families and households — the post-1984 younger generations. Looking at their understanding and perception of not just the same, but also the larger Sikh identity, interlinking themes such as state violence against minorities and identity formation, it has been completed under the advisory of Dr Prithvi Datta Chandra Shobhi, Associate Professor of History and Associate Dean of SIAS and Dr Ramachandra Guha, Distinguished Professor of History, SIAS. On 13 May, the campus hosted a screening of the documentary film, which garnered a positive response from all who attended.

Mosquitoes, Margins, and Delhi's Reality
Shweta Rani, Faculty at Krea University's Centre for Writing and Pedagogy (CWP), presented a paper titled The Urban and the Pathological: What Mosquitoes Tell Us About the City at the COMPASS Annual Symposium organised by Linkoping University, Sweden on 11-12 May 2023. The paper examines the connection between civic, social, ecological, and political aspects in Delhi's daily life by studying the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the dengue vector. Delhi has faced almost yearly dengue outbreaks since 1996. The paper highlights the lack of concrete data from public health authorities, who primarily focus on areas deemed "dirty" at the city's margins, home to working-class migrants and Muslims in unauthorized colonies. These areas face challenges with basic urban infrastructure and strict administrative scrutiny for pest control. The term "khula area" describes the ungovernable nature of these regions, allowing the flow of materials, bodies, and infections across interstate borders. Shweta's research explores the semiotics of the khula area to understand how a city is imagined, inhabited, and governed, shedding light on the city through the lens of the pathological and its associated elements.
