Krea University is presenting Where is India Headed?, a seminar series on 26 and 27 March, 2024 at the Sri City campus. This seminar aims to appraise the past decade in India. Politically, the period is significant as it marks the first time in over three decades that the country has experienced single-party rule. The seminar will focus on this question across five areas that impact the lives of citizens: politics, society, economy, ecology, and foreign policy.
The sessions will commence at 2.30 pm and will be 75 minutes in duration. Each session will consist of a 40-minute presentation by the speaker, with the remainder reserved for the chairperson's comments and Q&A. Following each session, there will be a 15-minute coffee break. Know more

Global Arts, in collaboration with the Office of Student Life (OSL) at Krea University, is presenting Movement Matters, an experiential workshop by Debra McCall, a Laban movement analyst, movement therapist, and historian.
In this workshop, participants will engage with the system of Laban Movement Analysis, developed by the early 20th-century movement philosopher and choreographer Rudolf Laban. Distinct from Labanotation, which is used to notate and document the quantitative 'WHAT' of movement (body part, spatial direction, timing, etc.), Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) focuses on the 'HOW' of movement—its qualities. More than just a notation tool, LMA brings an awareness of how we communicate, perform, and transform our’selves’.

The workshop will take place on March 16, 2024, from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm IST at SH-3, Krea University campus.

Join us for the next installment in the series of Krea Social Studies Talks, titled Behrupiya: Fluid Faith and Fuzzy Identities of a Community of Impersonation Artists by Dr Dev Nath Pathak, Associate Professor & Chairperson, Department of Sociology, South Asian University.
Centered on an artist community called Behrupiya, comprising impersonation artists found across the South Asian region, this talk aims to unravel the intricacies of key concepts such as identity, religion, and community.
While discursive deliberations in various texts provide definite definitional understanding of these key concepts, the life and work of the folk artists under discussion offer stimuli for novel reasoning. Behrupiya embody a fluid nature of religiosity due to their socio-religious orientation as well as their performative art, making it exceedingly difficult to uphold categorical cognition of identity. The talk will persuade us to seek a newfound alliance of text and context in understanding these keywords. All are welcome. Attendance is mandatory for students enrolled in SOCT 201 or POLT 201.On 28 March, 2024, from 10:30 am – 12:20 pm IST at 1B.

Politics at Krea is organising a talk titled Tenuous Tenure: Property and Social Segregation in Urban India by Professor Thomas Hansen, Reliance-Dhirubhai Ambani Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Stanford University.
Most observers of urbanization in India will agree that social segregation along lines of caste, community, and class is pervasive and deepening. But how does this process work and unfold? What are the conditions, constraints, and decisions that reproduce these outcomes?
Based on material from one mid-sized city in Maharashtra (Aurangabad), Professor Hansen shall explore the complex interplay between property regimes in urban and rural India, the prevalence of 'land invasions,' the pervasive reality of 'usufruct property' – property held but not owned, and the fundamental insecurity around land tenure and property rights in the face of changing zoning laws and the administrative fiat of the state. On April 2, 2024, from 2:30 to 4:00 pm at SH-2.

The World Humanities Report (India/South Asia) and the Moturi Satyanarayana Centre for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences present a Talk on Interrogating Banarasi Das's Ardhakathanaka: Perspectives on State, Power, and Authority. The speaker, Anindita Mukhopadhyay, is a professor at the Department of History, University of Hyderabad.
The talk first contextualises Banarasi Das within the 17th-century political landscape. It then elucidates the skeptical and radical consciousness present in Ardhakathanaka, an astounding autobiographical text of the period, and examines the argument regarding the claims of a 'modernity' supposedly unique to the colonial period. The paper raises questions about the understanding of location within the text, which encompasses at least three distinct levels – physical geographical, social/familial, and statist. The presentation synthesises these three senses of location within Banarasi Das’s text and highlights the elements of a pre-colonial subjectivity that exhibit some continuity with our present intellectual search for a centered self, while also acknowledging elements that have partially lost validity in this quest.
On March 19, 2024, from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm IST at 1A.
