To Take Root Among the Stars: Utopic Exodus in Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sowe
|
Dr Nicolas de Warren from Penn State University will be presenting a virtual lecture titled To Take Root Among the Stars: Utopic Exodus in Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower on 30 January, 2024. A part of Krea Literature and Philosophy Talk, this lecture aims to explore Octavia Butler’s science-fiction novel from the vantage point of Ernst Bloch’s philosophy of hope. The themes of temporality, exodus, violence, and divine inexistence are addressed both internally within Butler’s novel and externally in Bloch’s The Principle of Hope. The cultural horizon of Afro-Futurism and Sun-Ra’s jazz music will also be discussed.

Krea University celebrated Makara Sankranti on 14 and 15 January, 2024, organised by the Sankranti Committee. The festivities included the Bhogi fire ritual, prasad distribution, games for students, a movie screening, a delicious lunch, and kite flying events in the evening. The second day featured a cultural night with a captivating kolatam dance. These events provided students with a refreshing break after a week of end-term examinations.

Dr Govindapuram Suresh, Assistant Professor of Economics, IFMR GSB, Krea University presented a paper titled Empowering Rural India: Combating Corruption and Fostering Financial Inclusion at the Institute for Human Development (IHD), New Delhi, in partnership with NITI Aayog, Government of India and Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) on Advancing Human Development in the Global South from 11-13 January, 2024.
