A Round-up of the Kreaverse
Spanish artist Pablo Picasso once said, 'Action is the foundational key to all success,' and this sentiment resonates deeply with the vibrant atmosphere here at Krea University. It's been only a couple of months since we embarked on a new academic year, and since then, our campus has been alive with an exciting mix of academic endeavours and extracurricular engagements.
Our students have wasted no time in demonstrating their remarkable talents and initiatives through the various student clubs and committees that enrich our Kreaverse. Just this week, we were treated to the melodious tunes of our Indian classical musicians, and we're still basking in the glow of the resounding success of TEDxKrea University. Not to miss the three-day multimedia festival successfully anchored by LEAD at Krea University on the Sri City campus that sparked conversations on gender, power, and identity in the South Asian context.
Looking ahead, we have an exciting line-up of events that promise to enthrall, including a captivating production by the Theatre Club of the School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences (SIAS) and a mesmerising dance performance by the Dance Club of SIAS. However, the highlight of the upcoming week is undeniably the grand inauguration of our JSW Academic Building at the Sri City campus on September 23, graced by the esteemed presence of Mrs Sangita Jindal and Mr Sajjan Jindal.
Amidst all the buzz, over at IFMR GSB, our students are diligently preparing for their future careers, immersing themselves in enlightening field visits and guest lectures. They are guided by our esteemed faculty members, who continue to make remarkable contributions to academia through their research and expertise.
As we approach the impending end-of-trimester examinations, our Kreators are showcasing their unwavering dedication. They effortlessly balance their extracurricular commitments with their academic pursuits, a testament to their passion and drive to excel in every facet of University life.
Beyond what you'll discover in this newsletter, there are countless innovative ideas and initiatives silently taking shape within the Kreaverse. To stay updated, we encourage you to connect with us through our social media handles. Of Connections and Conversations
The inaugural event of Khirki Conversations, an initiative imagined and curated by Prof Bishnu Mohapatra, Director of Moturi Satyanarayana Centre for Advanced Study and Professor of Politics, SIAS took place on 20 September at Krea campus. The meeting began with unveiling of an artwork commissioned especially for this initiative. Enriched by pulsating colours, the motif of an open window takes us to a world of immensity, diversity, and plenitude.
Drawing inspiration from India’s linguistic diversity, the painting contains a translation of Khirki in more than twenty-five Indian languages. The vibrant collage of life and objects seen through the window points towards the interwovenness of knowledge and ways of knowing that cut across academic disciplines, languages and hierarchies.
The conversation began with Prof Bishnu speaking of his inspirations behind this initiative and the reasons for choosing Khirki as a motif. He talked about how the historic conversation between Gandhi and Tagore, Vinod Kumar Shukla’s iconic novel Deewar Mein Ek Khidki Rahti Thi (There was a Window that Lived on a Wall), and Rainer Maria Rilke’s Window poems inspired him to articulate the vision for this initiative. Khirki Conversations is founded on the values of self-reflexivity, criticality, openness to mystery, and finally, love and tenderness.
The theme for the inaugural conversation - The Observer, The Observed, The Observation was a cross-disciplinary exploration across Natural Science, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Dr Anannya Dasgupta, Director, Krea-CWP; Prof S Sivakumar, Dean of Research, SIAS, Krea University; Dr Sabha Siddiqui, Assistant Professor of Psychology, SIAS and Prof Bishnu Mohapatra spoke from different vantages about the entangled connections among the observer, the observed and the observation. Dr Anannya drew from the world of literature and visual images; Prof Sivakumar delved into classical and quantum physics to explicate the theme. Dr Sabah spoke of how these three categories enmesh in the domain of human love, and Prof Bishnu articulated the relationship between the three in terms of ‘anxieties’ historically prevalent in modern social science.
The meeting ended with a lively discussion initiated by the faculty and researchers in the audience. The Khirki remains open.

Cleaning Up for a Greener Future
On 17 September, from 6:45 pm to 8:20 pm, our eco-crusaders organised a Clean Up March on campus. Approximately 6.5 kg of littered waste was collected (excluding the waste in the Academic Block, as it was directly disposed of in the respective bin). The waste primarily consisted of plastic and paper waste. The waste was sorted and properly disposed of. Any materials that could be reused and repurposed are being kept by Rachana, the Design Club of SIAS, and will be utilised effectively.
The team recognised that the issue extends beyond simply cleaning up waste and aims to address the larger problem of waste disposal and the availability of disposal bins. They encouraged people to be more conscious and aware of how they dispose of their waste, the consequences of their actions, and who is responsible for cleaning up after them. They also encouraged everyone to join the monthly marches they plan to conduct.
