Even as the summer break continues to envelop the campus with tranquility, excitement has been quietly brewing at Krea University over the past few weeks, all thanks to Convocation 2023. The buzz surrounding this highly anticipated event has kept everyone on their toes, as it is just around the corner and promises to be a memorable occasion for faculty and students alike.
We've been equally busy with Prarambh 2023, the Orientation Programme for the MBA class of 2025 at IFMR GSB, Krea University that has been generating equal amounts of excitement for everyone involved. Starting on 5 July 2023, this week-long engagement is going to be packed with a slew of inspiring and interactive sessions to prepare the incoming cohort for a rollercoaster of new connections and experiences.
Our campus is gearing up for a series of unforgettable moments that blend celebration, learning, and discovery. It's going to be a summer to remember for all of us!

The Fashion Club envisions cultivating a profound sense of confidence within the student body, while dispelling any negative stereotypes or judgments associated with fashion and its enthusiasts. Navyata is passionately dedicated to bridging knowledge gaps, fostering comfort, and empowering individuals to discover their unique means of self-expression. By imparting valuable skills like styling and makeup, Navyata aims to equip its members with essential tools for their future endeavours.

As we gear up for Prarambh 2023, the Orientation Programme for the MBA Class of 2025, on 5 July 2023 at our Sri City campus, we are excited to announce that SV Nathan, Partner at Deloitte India, will be the esteemed Chief Guest for the event.

SV Nathan is a senior partner with Deloitte, focussing on Advisory and Organisation Development work. He is the former CHRO of Deloitte South Asia where he was a member of the India leadership team and served on the Talent Executive Leadership of Deloitte Asia Pacific. Nathan has over 35 years of experience in HR management in India and MNCs across diverse industries including Manufacturing, Services, Telecom, IT and Professional Services. Nathan is currently on the advisory Board of The Economic Times on matters related to Human Resources.

Kumar Ashutosh, PhD student at IFMR GSB, presented a research paper titled Can Improved Public Safety Measures for Females Catalyze Secondary Education for Girls? Some Empirical Evidence from India at the Gender and Economics Workshop held at IIT Hyderabad, on 16 June 2023. The paper provides evidence that women-centric police deterrence measures in Telangana have led to a 3.6 percent fall in girls dropping out of secondary school. The paper’s findings have critical implications for policy making at the intersection of gender, education, and crime. The study argues that public safety measures can complement existing channels to improve schooling for girls, leading to potential gains in female participation in skilled employment.

The Story of Indian Aviation
|
Dr Aashique Ahmed Iqbal, Assistant Professor of History, SIAS, whose book The Aeroplane and the Making of Modern India was recently published by Oxford University Press, in an interview for Moneycontrol talks about the culture and politics of colonial aviation, of princes and planes, and how World War II fundamentally reshaped Indian aviation. Of Research and Recognition
|
The fourth edition of the Research Symposium on Finance and Economics (RSFE) 2023 organised by IFMR Graduate School of Business (GSB) at Krea University was a resounding success and witnessed pivotal discourses and presentations on key emerging issues across the globe in the domains of Finance and Economics. The three-day event, held from 14-16 June, was a true milestone for a remarkable research showcase from across the globe, with more than 100 research papers presented from over 20 countries and more than 50 prestigious institutions of subject matter repute.

Discovery prospects of a light charged Higgs
|
Dr Siddharth Dwivedi, Assistant Professor of Physics at SIAS, published a paper titled Discovery prospects of a light charged Higgs near the fermiophobic region of Type-I 2HDM in the Journal of High Energy Physics. The paper is co-authored with Dr Disha Bhatia, Instituto de Fisica, Universidade de São Paulo, and Dr Nishita Desai, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai.

Breaking Down Brain Injuries

Dr Shyam Kumar Sudhakar, Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences, SIAS and his students Shreya Sridhar, SIAS Cohort of 2023, Satvika Char, SIAS Cohort of 2022, Kathan Pandya, SIAS Cohort of 2023 and Kaustav Mehta, SIAS Cohort of 2022 co-authored a paper titled Prevalence of comorbidities post mild traumatic brain injuries: a traumatic brain injury model systems study, published in the journal, Frontiers in Human Neuroscience. Debating Taboos in India's Education System
|
The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Hyderabad, and the Centre for Writing and Pedagogy, Krea University (Krea-CWP), brought together eight speakers to shed light on violent desires, exclusionary tendencies and transformative potentials in India’s education system on 26 and 27 May 2023. This report summarises their key arguments and offers ways to undo systemic discrimination against marginalised groups in India’s top education institutions, including science institutions.

Prof Christian Griesinger, Director, Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry & Head of NMR-Based Structural Biology, delivered a talk titled NMR Spectroscopy in Chemistry and Biology with Applications in Protein/Protein Recognition and Neuroprotectionon on 1 March 2023. The talk was part of the Krea Biology & Chemistry series.
NMR spectroscopy is a versatile tool for studying the structure and dynamics of molecules in Chemistry and Biology. This talk highlighted its applications, including determining the configuration of organic molecules at small quantities, examining protein dynamics, and investigating interactions between diphenylpyrazole (DPP) compounds and α-Synuclein in membranes. These interactions have potential implications for disease-modifying therapies in Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and Type II diabetes mellitus.

Dr Dalia Bhattacharjee, Assistant Professor, Jindal Global Law School, Jindal Global University, delivered a virtual talk title A Tale of Reproductive labourers: Stories from the Margin on 24 January 2023. This Krea Psychology Talks series.
Dr Bhattacharjee’s talk stemmed from ethnographic research, conducted as part of her work to highlight the voices of the surrogate mothers, whom she chooses to address as ‘reproductive labourers’, within larger discussions on and around the economics, politics and ethics of surrogate motherhood in India. Her work attempts to position the reproductive labourers to establish them as active agents instead of playing to the stereotypical image of third-world women as perpetual victims.

In this episode of Decoding Disciplines - The Krea Way, Dr Kalyan S Chakrabarti, Associate Professor of Biological Science and Chemistry, SIAS discusses the philosophy and pedagogy of Biological Sciences at Krea University. As a liberal education university, Krea emphasises Interwoven Learning and critical thinking. The interdisciplinary approach to teaching Biological Science and Chemistry at Krea University allows students to explore the subject in a more holistic manner. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the basic principles of the subject while also encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
