A Round-up of the Kreaverse

We are ringing in another new month and here comes the weekly dispatch of updates, scattered across the spectrum of Management, Arts, Sciences, and Humanities, creating spaces for conversations, action and impact, in an attempt to view the future from the now.
With May arrives our last leg of Admissions activities. The campus awaits, in anticipation of the bright new cohorts. In the week that passed, we also wrapped up the first edition of the Krea Summer School successfully, a week packed with a lively whirlwind of interactive classes and relaxing unwind sessions. Students and faculty members continue to pen stories of their own, from bagging accolades in prestigious competitions to engaging and executing, a fair share of immersive discourse, suggestions, learnings, and much more. The Krea community continues to strive hard, to not just work towards addressing challenges of the world but also to influence positive change in everyday events, because we know each building block matters.

HSBC India Business Case Programme
|

We congratulate Harshi Shah, Ansh Bhargava, Tejas Narayan, and Krithi Raghavan from the Cohort of 2022-2024, SIAS (School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences), Krea University for making it to the top four teams of the national finale of the HSBC India Business Case Programme, the world’s largest Undergraduate Business Case Competition, held in March, 2024.
After qualifying in the regional round in Hyderabad in early January, the team advanced to the semifinals in Mumbai. There, the team tackled a case study on Blaser Swisslube within a six-hour timeframe, crafting a comprehensive strategy and presenting it to the judges. The success after competing with 24 teams nationwide led them to the finals, where they addressed a case study on Sotheby’s and their venture into the NFT art market.

The distinguished jury comprised Srikrishna Sridhar Murthy, Co-founder and CEO of Sattva Consulting; Runa Baksi, MD & Country Head of Global Trade and Receivables Finance at HSBC India; George Aikara, CEO of United Way Mumbai and Apurva Rathod, Group Head - Secretarial, CSR and Sustainability at L&T Finance Services. The competition witnessed overall participation from 800+ teams and 3,200+ students participating from top institutions around the country.

American Mathematical Society's MRC Conference
|
|
|
Dr Shuchita Goyal, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, SIAS, Krea University has been selected to participate in the American Mathematical Society’s Mathematics Research Community (MRC) summer conference on Homotopical Combinatorics. The conference will take place at the Beaver Hollow Conference Center in Java Center, New York, USA, from 30 June to 6 July, 2024. Now in its sixteenth year, the MRC programme has chosen Dr Goyal as the sole Indian national to join this year's conference.

Neha Mishra, Assistant Professor of Practice at Krea-CWP (Centre for Writing and Pedagogy) led an online workshop titled From Chit to Chat(GPT): Ethical Conundrums in the Age of AI for undergraduate students enrolled in the Academic Writing course at Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Bengaluru Campus. Hosted by the Department of Liberal Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Bengaluru Campus, the workshop took place on 25 April, 2024.

This workshop explored two questions: while it began with the question Should ChatGPT do your homework?, it ended by answering the question Can ChatGPT do your homework?. It did so by looking at some of the existing policies formulated by leading science and humanities journals on ChatGPT use as well as through a close study of how and why ChatGPT fares poorly at scholarly work.

Sathyanarayanan Ramachandran, Sundram Fasteners Associate Professor, Marketing, IFMR (Graduate School of Business) GSB, Krea University published a guest article titled, Taking the franchise places, in The Hindu BusinessLine, discussing the logistics aspects of the Indian elections. The article discusses how multimodal logistics is key to the democratic exercise India undertakes every five years.

He was also recently invited by The Hindu BusinessLine to talk about the logistics aspects of the Indian elections. From the transport-related symbols like cars and buses on the EVMs to the actual transport of the EVMs and other materials to the country's remote corners, multimodal logistics plays a critical role in the festival of democracy.

An Anthology of Haiku Poetry

A set of haiku by Anannya Dasgupta, Director, Centre for Krea-CWP and Associate Professor of Literature, SIAS, Krea University is hot off the press as a part of an anthology of haiku poetry entitled Late-Blooming Cherries (Harper Collins India, April 2004). Compiled and edited by Kynpham Sing Nongkynrih and Rimi Nath, Late-Blooming Cherries features contributions from some of the most prominent haiku artists in India.

Dr Sathya Saminadan R S, Associate Professor of Practice and Area Chair, Marketing, IFMR GSB, Krea University recently participated in a one-day workshop organised by NICM, a division of the National Council for Cooperative Training, and sponsored by the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India. This workshop was specifically designed for retired and soon-to-be-retired Indian Army officials. The Government of India organised this initiative, recognising the importance of equipping soon-to-be-retired army officials with skills in business management. Dr Saminadan conducted a session on SEO and SEM strategies tailored for business entrepreneurship during the workshop.

A Symposium on Energy History and Environmental Sustainability

Dr Joya John, Assistant Professor of Literature, SIAS, Krea University will be presenting at a symposium on Energy History and Environmental Sustainability at the University of Chicago, Delhi Center, today, 3 May, 2024. The paper is titled, The Subaltern Modernizers of World History: Belatedness and Vernacular Publics in the Energy Humanities.

A Recap - Krea Summer School

In its inaugural run from 21 - 28 April, 2024, the Krea Summer School Programme (KSS) at Krea University welcomed a diverse cohort of over 25 students for a thoughtfully curated week-long residential experience. Through its two engaging programmes, Hide and Seek and The World Around Us, KSS ventured beyond the confines of conventional school subjects, delving into a spectrum of established and cutting-edge fields of study. As students embarked on this immersive journey, they were treated to an insightful preview of the vast realms awaiting them in higher education.
From a field trip to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to everyday interactive sessions and impressive final presentations, here are a few highlights.

We had the pleasure of reconnecting with Chaarmikha Nagalla, an alum from the Cohort of 2023, SIAS, Krea University. Chaarmikha was recently at our campus to deliver a plenary talk on entrepreneurship, enriching the students at the Krea Summer School programme with her insights.
She graduated last year with a Bachelor's degree in Economics with concentrations in Computer Science and Business Studies. Currently placed with the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub in Bengaluru, she shares her reflections on returning to her alma mater, the profound influence of Interwoven Learning on her professional journey, and her commitment to contributing back to the Krea community.
