Fieldwork is all kinds of fun. But what happens when one returns from the field with all manner of data in different shapes and forms? How does one even start writing up the field? How does one make coherent sense that works with the different parts of the data - interviews, field notes, archival or policy documents, scholarly work in the area, and theoretical work of course? In this two-day workshop the audience explored some writing exercises that can help at this stage of research writing.

On 20 December, 2023 the Moturi Satyanarayana Centre for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences at Krea University hosted a talk by Prof Ashis Nandy, eminent political and cultural psychologist, social theorist and critic. Prof Bishnu Mohapatra, Director of the centre, described Prof Ashis Nandy as the quintessential kalacintaka (reflector of time), an inimitable intellectual par excellence who has been reflecting on our time and, through his reflections and interventions, has helped us understand it.
One of the key messages Prof Nandy conveyed was about ethics. “It is not possible to ground ethics by reading books. Better science cannot give you better ethics. Ethics comes from within yourself. It comes from your exposure to the world,” said Prof Nandy.
