The Sports Club at SIAS, Krea University, organised a bench press event where students across batches gathered to break their bench press personal records (PRs) and set new ones in the process. Within those 2 hours, many PRs were broken, and individuals who had never benched felt comfortable enough to participate and socialise during the event, fostering the sense of community the club has been striving for.
The club plans to organise a deadlift event as part of Bolt 2024, providing more interested students with an opportunity to compete. Additionally, there are plans to introduce a bodyweight/calisthenics-centric event as it is more accessible and doesn’t require advanced skills.

Prof Akeel Bilgrami, distinguished philosopher, author, academic and public intellectual visited Krea University on 8-9 January, 2024. The event was organised by the faculty members of Environmental Studies, Philosophy and Politics, in collaboration with the Moturi Satyanarayana Centre for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
In the first talk titled How Did ’The World’ Go from Being a Place to Live In to a Place to Master and Control?, Prof Bilgrami traced four key historical developments: the transformation of the concept of nature to that of natural resources; of human beings to citizens; of people to populations; and of knowledge to expertise. Delving into the agencies, mentalities and historical events responsible for these four transformations, Prof Bilgrami traced the origins of the human practice of taking from Nature with impunity.
In the second talk, part of the Khirki Conversations series, Prof Bilgrami focused on the topic of Humanistic Learning and Its Challenges, historically tracing the deliberate construction of the notion of intelligence in service of capital, the fragmentation of education into disciplines, and the drawbacks of restricting the concept of truth or objectivity to the domain of natural sciences. In the words of Prof Bishnu Mohapatra, Director, Moturi Satyanarayana Centre for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Science and event host, the spirit of warmth and intellectual debate are blended into the Khirki Conversations. This platform is conceived as a place for experimentation in thinking and articulations and a ground for experiencing critique as a quotidian practice.
