Job Talk and Teaching Session
Data Science at Krea University organised a job talk and a teaching session by Dr Bhaswati Ganguli on 28 February, 2024 on Sri City campus.
She delivered a lecture on the topic Determination of the functional form of the log hazard ratio for a Cox model.
The talk focussed on dose-response models for time-to-event data. While the conventional method assumes linearity, an example is presented from occupational and environmental health where the assumption appears unrealistic.
Additional uncertainty is posed by the fact that the nonlinearity appears to occur in a region of sparse data and is driven by a few influential data points. A new method is proposed for the quantification of influence and robust determination of the shape of the dose-response. The proposed methodology can be shown to be approximately equivalent to a Poisson mixed model, thus enabling easy implementation and inference.
