A Round-up of the Kreaverse
|
September, much like any other month, arrives teeming with prospects. At Kreaverse, our campus is a constant hub of activity, always offering something exciting and enriching.
Recently, we came together to celebrate Teacher's Day, expressing our heartfelt appreciation for the educators who tirelessly shape the future minds at Krea University. Their unwavering commitment to research, workshops, and scholarly presentations at prestigious conferences continues to inspire us all.
Following in the footsteps of our dedicated faculty are our very own Kreators, students who seize every chance to excel. Two such students from the School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences (SIAS) at Krea University recently hosted a photography exhibition, exploring the diverse facets of queerness within the LGBTQIA+ community, and celebrating its beautiful variations. Additionally, we've been hosting successful guest lectures for students at IFMR GSB, Krea University, inviting prominent leaders from various fields to share their wisdom.
To nurture more potential Kreators, pre-registrations are now open, supported by a compelling campaign featuring our Krea Envoys, who will be sharing their inspiring journeys to guide prospective students through the multifaceted Krea experience.
But that's not all! Exciting events are on the horizon, including the inaugural TEDxKrea University event, featuring expert talks, engaging discussions, merchandise, and more. We're also looking forward to Gender 360°, a thought-provoking three-day film festival aimed at sparking critical thinking and capturing the perspectives of our youth through documentary films, exhibitions, and expert dialogues.
Amidst all this, the well-being of our Krea family remains paramount. Our Wednesdays for Wellness campaign continues to address important topics, one post at a time, while Filter Coffee, Unfiltered Conversations fosters a welcoming and friendly environment.
This is just a sneak peek into the developments taking place at Kreaverse. Follow our social media handles for more updates and if you have news that you'd like for us to share with the Krea community, write to us at all.commsteam@krea.edu.in. We're eager to hear from you!

The larger changes around the world cannot possibly be comprehended without seeing India as a site and arena of change.

Environmental histories over the last half centuries remind us of how human history is interrelated in complex ways with that of other living beings as much as waters, the land and atmosphere. Much as material changes matter in a literal sense, how humans contest or imagine their surroundings remains important. The colonial era was the focus of much of early historical work but there is a longer history of state-society-nature interfaces prior to that. Similarly, the post-1947 period has been marked by both departures and continuities. Rather than review the tapestry the effort here will be to highlight new questions that have arisen. Unless we think in critical and holistic ways about the past we can hardly prepare for the future.

Express, Engage and Educate

Shreya Kabadi and Soumyadeep Roy from SIAS at Krea University organised a queer photography exhibition titled Breaking Away from Straight Queerness on 6 September. The objective of this project was to explore queerness as a singular experience, one which highlights the substantial degree of variation and difference within the queer community, as a way of celebrating this difference. "This is a result of being fed up with the gaze of the cis heterosexuals being imposed on us, we have voiced our protests in the form of a photography exhibition. Every picture displayed was a personal story born out of a detailed conversation on self-portrayal. This is about queer people taking direct control and ownership over how we are perceived. It is not too much to ask for, so we aren’t," shared the organisers.

Once in a Blue Moon Experience
|
On 30 August 2023, students of ARTS315 at SIAS and a few others from other courses, a total of 29, documented the rare Blue Supermoon at Pulicat Lake. They were guided by Prof Anurag Singh from Global Arts and Anten Edilbert from Media Lab. They observed and documented the night sky during this rare occurrence. This trip provided them a unique context to put to use the skills they are learning in the documentary filmmaking course. It was also an opportunity for students to interact with the tutors outside of the formal classroom environment. With added creative support from Siddharth Ravikant from Team Communications, they also had fun with light painting in the moonlight and understood the concept of time lapse.
